Shadow business minister Dame Harriett Baldwin has accused the government of "dropping the ball" on British Steel.
But Dame Harriett refused several times to be drawn on whether it was a mistake of the previous government to allow Jingye to run the Scunthorpe plant.
The government has taken control of the operation after the Chinese company said it was not economically viable to continue to running the factory.
