The world’s highest court has ruled that states have a duty under international law to prevent climate change and that they have to pay full reparations to those affected if they fail to do so.
The case was brought by a group of students from the Pacific Islands who argue they are being devastated by the effects of greenhouse gas emissions, despite themselves producing less than zero point zero one percent of them. TRT World’s Victoria Innes has the story.
