Welcome back to our small group study! John Barnett here. With Bonnie sitting right over there, I am so thrilled that you have grabbed your Bibles and your journals to join us today. If you want to move beyond just filling your head with theological facts and start experiencing genuine, heart-level transformation, you absolutely must lean in for this lesson. I want to introduce this class by walking you through three life-changing truths we will unpack together:
1. The Root of Sin and the Robe of Humility

Summary of What’s Covered: We kick off the class by looking at my own personal journal. Early in the morning, before I even launch these lessons for you, I write an application prayer because the goal of Bible study isn’t to be proud of our facts, but to be sanctified by the truth. We will look at how Lucifer’s pride is the root of all sin, and we will pray together that God would clothe us in humility (Colossians 3:12) and empower us by His grace to deny ungodliness (Titus 2). Like Peter said in 1 Peter 5, we will thank God for opening the past and explaining the future so we can place our hope entirely in Him.
2. The Right Focus in a Panicking World: Saving Souls, Not Nations

Summary of What’s Covered: Next, we address the incredible anxiety of our day. I see so many Christians needlessly hyperventilating and worrying, spending all their time trying to reverse the political direction of our country. But in this class, I will remind you of a profound truth: God has not called us to save our country, because countries can’t be saved—only people get saved! We will discuss why political rioting is ungodly and unchristian, and how we are actually called to change the world by living godly lives, walking humbly, and sharing the Gospel with individuals.
3. Changing Appetites and the Great Global Harvest
Scripture References: Woven throughout (The sanctifying power of the Word).
Summary of What’s Covered: Finally, I am going to share some of the most hope-filled reports I have ever heard in my four decades of ministry. First, we will look at how God changes our appetites in sanctification—I’ll share a letter from a woman whose husband lost interest in sports, TV, and gaming because God gave him an insatiable hunger to study the Bible! Then, we will look at an astonishing global harvest. I’ll share a report from a dear Palestinian friend of mine—a former refugee who came to Christ at UCLA through a Campus Crusade missionary and later planted the Arabic Church of Dallas. He is now ministering across the 21 nations of the Arab-speaking world, and he reports that more people in that region are coming to Christ every single day right now than were saved in the first six centuries of Islam combined!
