Standing in the excavated ruins of ancient Corinth—near the lower city theater and within sight of the Acrocorinthus and the Temple of Apollo—archaeology provides physical evidence for the authenticity of God’s Word through an inscription bearing the name of Erastus.
As recorded in Romans 16:23, Erastus served as the city treasurer in charge of public works. Yet, despite holding a prominent civic position within a pagan, vanity-fair city, Erastus was an unashamed Christian who attended church, shared his faith, and faithfully lived for Christ in his daily work.
The life-transforming impact of this class rests in discovering how God calls you to live out your faith in the very culture and workplace where He has placed you. Rather than separating sacred belief from secular duty, Erastus integrated his faith into his everyday public role and stood openly with the church of Jesus Christ. Because he lived faithfully and put his name with his work for the Lord, God acknowledged him as a faithful servant and included his name in the eternal record of Scripture.
Through this lesson, God uses Erastus’s example to transform your personal vision for your own life and vocation. You are challenged and equipped to make it your highest desire to identify with Christ’s church, share your faith in daily life, and serve honorably so that you too may be found a faithful servant of Jesus Christ.
