    Myanmar junta moves to second phase of controversial elections

    Myanmar’s military junta is holding the second phase of its long-delayed general election in 100 townships nationwide. The first phase with low turnout saw the junta-backed USDP win nearly 90% of contested seats. Despite ongoing conflict, voter distrust and the exclusion of pro-democracy forces, the military says the vote will legitimise its rule, while critics and the UN warn it will entrench military control rather than resolve the crisis. Rumeysa Codar has the report.
