New York City Council Member Chi Ossé was arrested while protesting the planned eviction of a constituent in Brooklyn’s Bed-Stuy neighborhood. Ossé and other demonstrators were attempting to block the eviction of longtime resident Carmella Charrington, who his office said was at risk of losing her home after decades due to alleged deed theft. The council member’s office has been advocating for stronger protections for homeowners facing such cases. However, according to the office of Letitia James, the situation is not considered deed theft but rather a complex family dispute. Ossé was later released the same day.
