Video from the scene showed growing tensions and protesters pushing barricades separating them from state police. The Department of Homeland Security said state and local law enforcement joined ICE agents to maintain security around the facility. New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill urged peaceful demonstrations while calling for improved conditions and access for detainees.
