German FM calls on all sides to avoid more violence | DW News

Germany’s foreign minister Johann Wadephul has again called for a cessation of violence between Iran and Israel. He said willingness to negotiate was the path to long-term regional peace.

Iran had struck Israel late Sunday, pointing to “repeated violations” of the ceasefire in Lebanon by Israeli forces. Israel struck back, Iran in turn responded with more attacks. On Monday afternoon Iran’s military leadership declared its attacks against Israel over.

Israel and Lebanon had agreed last week on a renewed attempt to implement a ceasefire. One condition was that Hezbollah — classified as a terror organization by several entities — completely halt its attacks on Israel. The militia was not involved in the ceasefire talks, flatly rejected the agreement and continued attacking Israel.
