The Dow Jones (^DJI) hit 40,000 for the first time in history on Thursday. Yahoo Finance’s Josh Schafer joins The Morning Brief to analyze the history of the index and its top stocks.
The Dow first crossed 20,000 in 2017, and Apple (AAPL) alone has accounted for over 3,000 of the index’s 20,000-point jump since then.
Two companies — Goldman Sachs (GS) and Caterpillar (CAT) — largely boosted this year’s Dow record. Both companies have seen about a 20% gain this year so far and have added 880 points to the rally.
