On his arrival in Pyongyang, Putin was greeted with a grand welcome ceremony at Kim Il Sung Square, named after North Korea’s founder. The leaders met amidst cheers, anthems, and displays of national symbols, setting a tone of camaraderie. Their discussions, which included extensive bilateral talks and private meetings, spanned several hours, indicating the depth of the discussions.
The leaders exchanged gifts, with Kim receiving a Russian-made limousine and other ceremonial items, while Putin received artworks from Kim. The gift exchange symbolized the strengthening ties between the two leaders.
Putin’s trip to Pyongyang, his first in 24 years, also included a public greeting at Pyongyang International Airport and a ride together to the state guest house, where they continued their discussions. This meeting, described as an exchange of heartfelt thoughts, was reported to showcase the invincibility of Russia-North Korea ties.
