Can Patriots for Europe Succeed Where the Globalists Have Failed?
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has announced the formation of a new political alliance named “Patriots for Europe.” The alliance, which includes Orban’s Fidesz party, Austria’s Freedom Party (FPÖ), and a centrist group led by former Czech Premier Andrej Babis, aims to reshape the political landscape within the European Union. This announcement was made in Austria, just before Hungary takes on the rotating six-month presidency of the EU.
Orban emphasized that “Patriots for Europe” seeks to become the predominant right-wing force in Europe, proposing an agenda focused on “peace, security, and development,” in contrast to what he described as the “war, migration, and stagnation” associated with current EU policies directed by the “Brussels elite.” The alliance criticizes plans for a centralized European state and advocates for prioritizing national sovereignty, freedom from imposition, and peace over federalist approaches. The globalists are not amused.

The alliance’s manifesto also highlights a strong stance against illegal immigration, a longstanding issue for its founding members. This focus comes in the context of recent data from the EU’s border agency, Frontex, showing a significant decrease in irregular migrant arrivals compared to the previous year. To be formally recognized as a group within the European Parliament, “Patriots for Europe” will require the support of parties from four additional EU states. The formation of this group follows the recent European Parliament elections, which saw a strengthening of hard-right parties, though their performance varied by country. These parties have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with being excluded from significant negotiations, including those determining key EU leadership positions.

The creation of this alliance has opened up speculation about other potential members, including Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), recently expelled from another right-wing group, and Italy’s Brothers of Italy, led by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
