A tragic incident occurred at a Southern Maryland Blue Crabs baseball game in Waldorf, Maryland, when a bounce house full of children was lifted into the air by a gust of wind and crashed down onto a baseball field. A 5-year-old boy from La Plata was airlifted to a children’s hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Another child was also airlifted with non-life-threatening injuries.

The inflatable bounce house, which was set up at Regency Furniture Stadium to entertain kids during the game, was carried 15 to 20 feet into the air before crashing. Emergency services personnel, already present at the game, along with team trainers and volunteer first responders, quickly tended to the injured children.
“We extend our deepest empathy to the children and their families during this difficult time,” said Charles County Government Commissioner President Reuben Collins. “We thank our EMS team and the Maryland State Police for their swift actions to ensure the children received immediate care.”
Witnesses reported that the bounce house had been secured by stakes hammered into the ground, but the wind gust was strong enough to lift it over a wall and onto the field. The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs General Manager, Courtney Knichel, expressed condolences and concern for the injured child, stating that their thoughts and prayers were with the affected families.
