A man from Chicago has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder following a shocking and tragic event that unfolded early on Labor Day. Authorities allege that 30-year-old Rhanni S. Davis executed four people in what police have described as a random, execution-style attack on a Chicago-area L train in Forest Park, a suburb located roughly 10 miles west of downtown Chicago.

The grim incident took place just before 5:30 a.m. on Monday. Forest Park police, responding to a 911 call, found three passengers dead on the train from gunshot wounds to the head. All three victims appeared to have been shot at close range while they were asleep. A fourth victim, found in another train car with a gunshot wound to the stomach, was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities have identified three of the victims: Margaret Miller, 64, Simeon Bihesi, 28, and Adrian Collins, 60. The identity of the fourth victim, a male, has not been released as officials are still notifying his family.

According to a police report, Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) employees discovered the first three bodies while cleaning the train cars on the Blue Line, which operates around the clock and runs from Forest Park through downtown Chicago to O’Hare International Airport. The CTA workers immediately called the police, prompting a swift response from Forest Park law enforcement.

After the shootings, Davis reportedly tried to flee the scene but was quickly identified through video surveillance. By 7 a.m., police had arrested him on a different Chicago Transit Authority line. Authorities reported finding a Glock handgun on Davis that matched the shell casings discovered at the scene, linking him directly to the murders.

While the motive for the shootings remains unclear, Forest Park Deputy Police Chief Christopher Chin suggested the attack was random. “It’s believed to be random,” Chin stated, emphasizing the apparent senselessness of the violence. Davis is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

The shootings have left the Forest Park community in shock. Mayor Rory Hoskins described the tragic events as “a horrible tragedy,” noting that while the area is accustomed to frequent police calls due to its busy transit line, such deadly violence is extremely rare.

In a statement, the Chicago Transit Authority expressed condolences to the victims’ families and stressed its commitment to passenger safety. “The safety and security of our riders and employees is and remains our number one priority,” said the CTA President, highlighting the ongoing cooperation with law enforcement in the investigation.

The Forest Park police are continuing their investigation, trying to piece together Davis’ actions and motivations leading up to the brutal killings. As the legal process unfolds, the families of the victims and the wider community are left grappling with the sudden and violent loss of life on what should have been a routine train ride.
