Falling in Love with Christ
Paul warned in II Timothy 3 that perilous times are ahead!
Evil, dark, and deadly times are all around us and growing. We are betrothed to Christ.
As engaged to Him, we need to express love for Him!
Dr. H.A. Ironside says the key to the story is found in Song of Solomon 8:11. It is the recounting of a poor family of Ephraim in which there is a girl who is a sort of Cinderella. The family’s poverty forces her into the vineyards, where she meets the young shepherd. The story of their love is first told.
Then, he leaves her with the promise that he will return. He has been absent for a long time, and she despairs about his return. One day, the electrifying word is shouted along the way that King Solomon is coming by.
She is uninterested and takes no further notice until she learns that King Solomon wants to see her.
She is puzzled until she is brought into his presence when she recognizes him as her shepherd lover. He takes her to his palace in Jerusalem, where most of the song occurs.
When reading the Song of Solomon, take off the shoes of the natural man, for the ground you stand is spiritual.
But what does this difficult book teach us? There are four enduring views:
1. It sets forth the "glory of wedded love," declaring the sacredness of marital relationship and that marriage is a divine institution.
2. It sets forth the love of Jehovah for Israel. The prophets spoke of Israel as the wife of Jehovah.
3. It is a picture of Christ and the Church. The Church is the bride of Christ, a familiar figure of Scripture (2 Cor.11; Eph. 5; Rev. 21).
4. It depicts the communion of Christ and the individual believer. The soul’s communion with Christ is here set forth.
Though there have been a variety of interpretations of "The Song," we shall only consider one: Those who are “accepted in the beloved" have a path to follow. A path that may bring joy or sorrow while here.
It is a very PRACTICAL BOOK. This is a difficult book to OUTLINE, as there are so many conversations in a short portion. Let us take a simple, though not entirely satisfying one. It is from Hudson Taylor’s book "UNION and COMMUNION.”
