The American electorate swung Right in 2024 due to factors like economic dissatisfaction, immigration concerns, and fears of "woke" culture. Though, many votersā perceptions didnāt align with the facts. Misinformation spread widely on social media, partly through Elon Muskās X, which amplified election falsehoods. Navigating a reality increasingly undermined by falsehoods is a growing concern, says Mary Anne Franks, a law professor at George Washington University. āThere are things that we can decide as a country that are too harmful, and undermine democracy,ā says Franks. āWithout access to the truth, we cannot have a democracy.ā
