Germany’s political parties are gearing up for snap elections in February – after the collapse of the coalition government earlier this month.
Junior partners in the cabinet – the Greens – are hoping to stay in power despite poor results in recent state elections. They have been holding a national conference in the city of Wiesbaden. And they have just named economics minister Robert Habeck as their candidate for chancellor.
