Listen and subscribe to Stocks In Translation on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you find your favorite podcast. Momentum — it’s what every stock needs. In this episode of Stocks In Translation, Yahoo Finance markets and data editor Jared Blikre and producer Sydnee Fried welcome Julius de Kempenaer, the creator of Relative Rotation Graphs, to the podcast.
Momentum, or "momo," refers to an asset’s price continuing to move in the same direction based on its past performance. "A lot of the concepts in technical analysis are based on momentum," said de Kempenaer. "Relative Rotation Graphs are using a form of momentum to display that rotational pattern in the markets."
In the episode’s Who Wore It Better segment, the team analyzes market trend patterns best suited for navigating a surge in risk, focusing on the head-and-shoulders pattern. "If you look at a head and shoulder pattern, the first part is still part of the uptrend. Because you’ve got that high, you’ve got that higher high, and then the first negative sign is that your low is at the same or relatively the same level as the previous low," explains de Kempenaer. Twice a week, Stocks In Translation cuts through the market mayhem, noisy numbers, and hyperbole to give you the information you need to make the right trade for your portfolio.
