Watch Business Live as the new energy price cap has been announced for January. It will rise to £1,738 from the current level of £1,717 – an increase of 1.2%.
Every three months, energy regulator Ofgem revises the cap based on wholesale costs. Energy prices are expected to remain high into next summer, according to Cornwall Insight, which has provided accurate forecasts of the price cap in recent years.
It predicted the cap would go down to £1,712.99 in April, when it is next revised – just £4.01 less than the current figure. While it has yet to release an official figure, the analysis group said another reduction was likely in October 2025
