The death toll from airstrikes by the Israeli military on Gaza in the last 24 hours has risen to at least 70, according to officials from the Gaza Strip’s Health Ministry. The latest deaths come as negotiators begin a new push for a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Representatives from both sides are meeting in Doha for talks moderated by the US, Egypt and Qatar. Mediators are pushing for a deal ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration in the US.
Trump has been quoted before, saying there will be "hell to pay" if hostages aren’t released.
