On Wednesday, a ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel in Gaza was announced by Qatar and confirmed by US President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump.
However, on Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Hamas of “reneging” on parts of the agreement, leading to a delay in his cabinet’s approval of the deal. The enclave’s civil defense agency confirmed that at least 73 people were killed in overnight strikes on Gaza since the announcement of the truce on Wednesday.
What role did the newly elected President Donald Trump play in this situation, and how will he move forward in the coming days with regard to the Middle East?
Alon Pinkas, former Ambassador and Consul General of Israel in New York, shared his insights.
