Michaela Küfner, DW Chief Political Editor:
He himself recognises that the CDU for success needs women voters. But the younger the women are that get polled, the worse he does. Below 18, he’s even below 9%. Well, you can say that doesn’t really matter because they’re not going to vote anyway. The voting age in Germany is 18, but above that it’s not that terribly much more. And he just simply comes across as a man of the 90s. He’s tone deaf to the issue of women’s representation. Just as an example, in 2023, there were seven tickets for the Munich Security Conference for his party. He sent seven men. He doesn’t have anyone who’s very a close advisor to him who’s female, his spokespeople, all men. Only the head of the Konrad Adenauer house of the party, that’s a female speaker.
