During a joint press conference between the French and US heads of state on February 24, Emmanuel Macron made a show of correcting Donald Trump’s comments regarding the status of European Union payments towards Ukrainian military efforts.
While placing his hand over Trump’s arm, Macron stated, “no, in fact, to be frank, we paid,” after Trump commented that the EU was still in the process of loaning money to Ukraine.
Macron further noted that 60% of the funding behind Ukrainian efforts had already been paid for by the EU in the form of “real money”, noting 30 billion in frozen Russian assets as a source for where the loan would be from.
