Rising tensions between France and Algeria escalated last week when French Prime Minister François Bayrou threatened to cancel a longstanding agreement with Algeria on free movement. The move came after a deadly knife attack in eastern France in which the main suspect is an Algerian national whom France had tried to expel multiple times.
