The UN has warned that the USAID funding freeze could lead to to as many as 2000 new potential HIV infections per day. In Indonesia, NGOs funded by USAID have long played a crucial role in tracing and supporting HIV-positive individuals, ensuring they get treatment despite heavy stigma.
But with funding now on hold, hundreds of tracers have lost their jobs, heightening the risk for vulnerable communities.
