God loves to contrast right and wrong responses to His plan. In the historical record of I Samuel, God portrays the bad choices of Eli in contrast to the godly choices of Elkanah, Hannah, and Samuel. Samuel is very special in God’s Book.
Remember, grace gives us the power to choose. Grace means God offers us a choice, and we have to make it. Sometimes, at first glance, it seems that God was harsh and overly severe to Eli. But when you see the atmosphere of all God was doing around Eli, at the same time he was making these bad choices, the grace God offered that Eli neglected becomes clear.
