A French court will on Wednesday give a verdict in the trial of retired surgeon Joel Le Scouarnec who admitted to raping and sexually assaulting hundreds of patients, many of them children, often while they were under anaesthesia or waking up after operations. Victims hope the sentence will highlight the severity of Le Scouarnec’s crimes and raise awareness about sexual abouse in hospitals.
