Turkish athlete Necmettin Erbakan Akyuz cast his medal into the Nile River after the European Wushu Kungfu Federation suspended his championship title and launched an investigation into his support for Palestine.
In December 2023, following his victory at the European Wushu Championship held in Istanbul, Türkiye, Akyuz waved a Palestinian flag in a show of solidarity with Gaza.
