A leading British palliative care consultant has described the UK’s assisted dying bill as "deeply dangerous" and is urging MPs to stop it from progressing any further.
The proposed British legislation would be based on the scheme used in the US state of Oregon – widely regarded as the model with the most safeguards – but Dr Amy Proffitt claims it is "far from a safe system" and could put terminally-ill and disabled people at risk.
Sky’s health correspondent Asish Joshi put Dr Proffitt’s concerns to Dr David Grube, a retired Oregon doctor who has assisted numerous assisted deaths, who insisted that those fears have not been realised since the introduction of assisted dying in the state in 1994.
