A Ukrainian child with a rare syndrome was rescued amid the Russia-Ukraine war and has found healing in Türkiye. At Akdeniz University, Dr. Omer Ozkan’s team performed 15 surgeries in two years, including creating a new ear for the child from his rib bone, in order to transform his face, which was deformed by the syndrome. Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan’s compassion sparked this journey.
