Comeback for the Tram? | DW News

The tram is back! In the Belgian city of Liège. It’s new, clean, fast and equipped with the latest technology. But it’s not a new mode of transport here. It once symbolized modern life. Over time the streetcar was seen as outdated, slow and inconvenient. In the 1960s Liège decided to abolish its tram network and replace it with buses. But traffic and congestion grew unbearable, and the idea of bringing the tram back came about in 2007. Today, trams are not just a mode of transport. Supporters say they stand for more.
