Firefighters worked to contain the Jarilla Fire in western Spain’s Extremadura region on Sunday, August 17, as more than 40 fires ravaged the region, according to reports.
The fire, which began on Tuesday, was reportedly sparked by lightning in the mountains.
Officials said evacuations were underway in surrounding areas as the blaze burned “out of control.”
Aerial footage released by Spain’s Ministry of Defense on Sunday shows crews battling the fire near Hervas in northern Caceres.
