In May 2024, Slovenia formally recognised the State of Palestine.
Speaking at the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon reaffirmed the importance of recognition, commended the countries that had already taken that step, and called on others to follow suit.
