Their debut album "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)" changed the course of East Coast hip-hop in 1993, with its lyrical acrobatics delivered by a charismatic collective of MCs. Thirty years later, the Wu-Tang Clan have taken to the stage of the immense Red Rocks amphitheatre, accompanied by the Colorado Symphony orchestra, for a historical concert that is at the centre of "A Wu-Tang experience: Live at Red Rocks". Its director, Gerald Barclay, and founder of the Wu-Tang clan RZA join arts24 to discuss this major moment in the group’s history.
RZA tells us more about the cult status of the group’s first record, as they "captured the sound and the vibe and the music of New York". We also hear more about the notoriously secretive album "Once Upon a Time in Shaolin", the record produced in a single copy in 2015 and auctioned to pharmaceutical CEO Martin Shkreli for $2 million.
And as the Wu-Tang branches out into video games, ballet and cinema, RZA gives us a preview of his latest film "One Spoon of Chocolate" and talks about the visual possibilities the film format offers him as an artist.
