The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is pushing for international recognition and stronger diplomatic ties, with President Erdogan and TRNC President Ersin Tatar advocating for a two-state solution. Tatar’s diplomatic efforts focus on gaining observer status in international organisations and rejecting any partnership excluding Türkiye.
The upcoming October 19 presidential election will determine whether the TRNC continues pursuing independence or shifts toward a federal settlement with Greek Cypriots. Naim Ongoren reports from Lefkosa.
