The Trump administration has officially designated the Cartel de los Soles as a terrorist organization – a move that Nicolas Maduro government argued was intended to justify an illegitimate and illegal intervention against Venezuela. Tensions between the two countries have risen following strikes on boats in the Caribbean suspected of carrying drugs to the US but, official data reveals that most drugs entering the US are not from Venezuela.
