US sanctions targeting Russian energy companies have caused significant disruption in Bulgaria, a country heavily dependent on Russian energy imports. The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced it has issued a license that opens the way for negotiations on a possible sale of Lukoil’s foreign assets. In response, the Bulgarian parliament overturned President Rumen Radev’s veto on a law enabling the government to take control of Lukoil’s refinery and sell it to protect it from US sanctions.
