China hardliners in Washington slammed the Trump administration for its decision to allow Nvidia to ship its second most advanced AI chip to China, citing fears Beijing could harness the technology to supercharge its military. Speaking on FRANCE 24, Jean-Francois Di Meglio, Economist and Honorary Chair at the Asia Centre think tank, says China is on a path towards strategic autonomy and ‘it’s only a matter of time before it becomes totally autonomous’ in the chip sector.
