Hanukkah is more than a sweet tradition; it is the reality of a small nation facing a brutal empire that seeks to destroy its soul. This ancient spirit of defilement returned on October 7, when the enemy came with a premeditated plan to commit sexual terrorism and erase Jewish identity, mirroring the armies of Antiochus. The moral darkness is absolute, seen in enemies who withhold food from their own children for propaganda and even in civilian doctors who become murderers of the innocent.
Yet, even in the deepest darkness, the Jewish spirit refuses to be extinguished. We remember the hostages who, deep within terror tunnels, fought to hold onto the light by singing Hanukkah songs just before their execution.
While ancient enemies turn to dust, the nation of Israel lives on because of the Guardian of Israel, resting on the eternal promise that the light will always overcome the darkness.
