The President Trump-chaired board of the Kennedy Center voted to rename its marquee DC performance venue the “Trump-Kennedy Center,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Thursday. Earlier this month, the U.S. Institute of Peace was also renamed in honor of the sitting president. Trump, who once dreamed of becoming a theater producer, expressed both surprise and delight at the name change. Despite his supposed surprise, Trump had publicly dangled the possibility of renaming the feted venue after himself for months. In August, for example, he remarked that “Some people refer to it as the Trump/Kennedy Center, but we’re not prepared to do that quite yet.”
