Violent protests have erupted in the capital of Bangladesh following the killing of a key figure in last year’s student movement that led to the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government. The interim government is urging people to resist violence as soldiers and police are deployed across Dhaka and other cities. The Muslim-majority nation of about 175 million people is due to elect a new parliament in less than two months — a transition many hope will help the country recover from nearly two years of instability.
