Former Bangladeshi prime minister Khaleda Zia was laid to rest as huge crowds from all walks of life gathered at her funeral to honor her legacy. A three-time prime minister and the country’s first female leader, she is remembered for leading the struggle against autocratic rule in the 1990s and for her uncompromising stance on democracy and the rule of law. Analysts say her death creates a major political vacuum ahead of national elections, while the BNP vows to continue her vision of restoring democracy in Bangladesh. Mohammad Kamruzzaman reports from Dhaka.
