Rights groups are warning that the Iranian regime is about to launch a crackdown on the protests that are sweeping the country.
Donald Trump said the US was ready to "come to their rescue" if Iran’s leaders used force to put down the demonstrations.
A senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei responded by saying Trump should "be careful" if he intervened, warning of potential chaos across the Middle East.
At least seven people are reported to have been killed in the latest demonstrations, which were triggered by the worsening economic situation in the country.
