French farmers steered some 350 tractors on January 11 toward French Parliament to protest low incomes and an EU trade deal with South America that they fear threatens their livelihoods. They say their earnings are squeezed by rising costs of fuel, fertilizer and animal feed as well as heavier environmental rules and price pressure from retailers – the last straw being the recently signed Mercosur deal. FRANCE 24’s Ellen Gainsford spoke to several of them in Paris.
