Activists report that more than 2,400 people have been killed in Iran’s crackdown on nationwide protests, according to updated figures from the Human Rights Activist News Agency, which says most of the victims were protesters, though over 140 members of security forces and government supporters have also died. On Wednesday, state funerals were held for some of the fallen security personnel, the first of many expected in the days ahead. Meanwhile, an internet blackout lasting more than five days has made independent verification of information difficult, even as Iranian human rights groups begin to identify and name some of the victims.
