Venezuela’s opposition leader María Corina Machado says she presented her Nobel Peace Prize Medal to Donald Trump at a meeting in the White House. The meeting took place behind closed doors and the White House has not released any footage. Machado said the talks with Trump were ‘great’. But the White House said the meeting had not changed the US President’s earlier assessment that she lacks the respect needed to lead Venezuela. Machado’s party is widely considered to have won the disputed 20-24 elections rejected by former President Nicolás Maduro, who the US captured in a raid on January third. Machado says her coalition should now lead Venezuela, but Trump has already endorsed interim President Delcy Rodríguez, who had served as Maduro’s deputy since 2018. We spoke to DW’s Oskar Schlenker, and Venezuelan Journalist Noris Soto.
