Canada and China have struck a deal that will slash tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles and Canadian farm products.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and China’s Xi Jinping announced the preliminary agreement after talks in Beijing. Both countries promised to tear down trade barriers and forge new strategic ties. It comes as Canada seeks alternative partnerships amid tensions with the United States, its traditional trading partner. We spoke with Carlo Dade, Director of International Policy and the New North America Initiative at the University of Calgary.
