Sky News correspondent Alex Rossi reports from northeast Syria, where control of the region is shifting and a fragile ceasefire is in place between Kurdish-led forces and Syria’s new government in Damascus.
Since early January, government forces and allied fighters have pushed the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) out of large areas of northern Syria — raising fears about what comes next for civilians and regional stability.
The SDF fought alongside the US-led coalition to defeat Islamic State, but Syria’s new authorities are now seeking to extend control into the oil-rich autonomous areas long held by the group.
There are also growing concerns over the fate of thousands of Islamic State detainees held in camps across the northeast if control of the region changes hands.
