Sky News’ technology correspondent Rowland Manthorpe investigates the hidden world behind the explosion of AI-generated music and uncovers a vast fraud flooding streaming platforms like Spotify, YouTube, Deezer and Apple Music.
AI music engines like Suno can now create entire songs in seconds that sound indistinguishable from human-made music. But while the technology feels magical, Rowland reveals how it is being exploited by fraudsters to manipulate streaming algorithms and siphon billions of pounds away from real musicians.
Fraudsters are using AI to mass-produce tracks and then deploying armies of bots to stream them over and over again, a system where robots listen to robot music, all to generate royalties.
