“There were still people trapped under the rubble. I decided to do the best I could, in my own way.”
Emel Duman, a multi-award-winning sericulturist from Hatay, has dedicated her life to reviving Hatay Yellow, a rare silkworm endemic to Türkiye’s Hatay province.
Duman nearly lost her life’s work when the February 6 earthquake struck, losing more than 100,000 cocoons. But from the few that survived, she rebuilt her entire silk network over three years, bringing Hatay Yellow Silk back to life and securing its official license.
