A wave of violence is sweeping across Mexico, with buildings torched, highways blocked and flights cancelled following the killing of the country’s most wanted drug lord. President Claudia Sheinbaum has urged calm, as unrest spreads to around a dozen states. Oseguera Cervantes, known as ‘El Mencho’, was killed in a military raid along with several associates. Over the past decade, his Jalisco New Generation’ cartel has grown into one of the country’s most powerful criminal groups. Bassam Bounenni has more.
